PUTRAJAYA, 18 November 2007 – The Malaysian Contingent to the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan did Malaysia proud with one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal and 10 Excellent Winners Awards. Award of Best Popularity also went to one of our primary school teams.
170 teams from 18 countries took part in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2007. The competition was divided into two categories: Regular Event Category and Open Category. 121 teams competed in the first category while the second category had 49 teams. 12 teams from the Malaysian contingent competed in the Regular Event Category while 3 teams competed in the Open Category.
SM TEKNIK SEJINGKAT, KUCHING, SARAWAK grabbed the Gold Medal in the upper secondary open category. The team comprises, the mentor, AWG. ABD. RAHMAN BIN AWG. REDZUAN, and 3 students, ARIFF FAQRI BIN BUANG, MUHAMMAD ZUL BAHARI BIN ZAINUDDIN, and HERMAN BIN KHAMIS.
The team from SK TAMAN MEGAH, PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR whose team comprises the mentor, MOHD. ZAKUAN BIN ABDULLAH, and 3 students, FRANCIS PETER MOISSINAC, THOMAS LIONEL MOISSINAC, and NADIA ESHAM, won the Silver Medal in the primary school open category. This team was also a crowd favourite and won Award of Best Popularity.
In addition, 10 other teams representing the country showed such promise during the competition that they won the Excellent Winners Award for their performance.
On 15 November, the Malaysiaa contingent, received the Jalur Gemilang at Putrajaya from the Minister of Education, Dato' Sri Hishammudin Tun Hussein before leaving for Taipei. The Minister gave the word of encouragement and wish them luck in the competition.
